About

Eastern Taekwon-Do is a well-established martial arts club located in Pakuranga, East Auckland. The club teaches the original form of Taekwon-Do created by its founder, General Choi Hong Hi. Their style, known as the ITF or Chang Hon style, focuses on developing both physical and mental strength.

The club boasts a qualified team of instructors who bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and instructing skills to their training sessions. These sessions cover all aspects of the art, including fundamentals, defensive and offensive combat training, patterns, system of sparring, breaking, and self-defence techniques.

Eastern Taekwon-Do prides itself on offering a welcoming and conducive training environment for individuals of all genders, as well as teens, adults, and families. They are affiliated with International Taekwon-Do (ITKD), which is the national governing body in New Zealand. With 90 other affiliated clubs around the country, ITKD is one of the largest martial arts organisations in New Zealand.

Club members have the opportunity to participate in various events throughout the year, such as tournaments, camps, seminars, and gradings. These events allow members to showcase their skills, test their abilities, and progress through the ranks as they continue to learn and grow.

Taekwon-Do, as taught by Eastern Taekwon-Do, is not just a form of self-defence. It is a scientific approach to unarmed combat that combines physical and mental training. The discipline, technique, and mental conditioning gained through Taekwon-Do build a strong sense of justice, fortitude, humility, and resolve in practitioners.

The term “Taekwon-Do” is derived from three Korean words: 'Tae' meaning to jump or kick with the foot, 'Kwon' meaning to punch with the hand or fist, and 'Do' meaning art or way. International Taekwon-Do distinguishes itself from other martial arts through its scientific foundation, based on an understanding of human anatomy and Newtonian physics.

Moral values and mental conditioning are of utmost importance in Taekwon-Do. Eastern Taekwon-Do emphasises the importance of discipline, humility, and self-control. These non-physical aspects, known as the 'Do', complement the physical training and shape the character of practitioners.

Eastern Taekwon-Do invites everyone to book a free trial session to experience the true essence and benefits of Taekwon-Do as a martial art. They are located at Farm Cove Intermediate Gymnasium on Butley Drive in Pakuranga, Auckland. Interested individuals can contact them via phone at 027 2444 690 or by using their online contact form.
