Welcome to Eastbourne Chess Club, a friendly and welcoming chess club located in Eastbourne, New Zealand. Established in 1880, our club has a long and proud history of promoting chess in the community.
At Eastbourne Chess Club, we are open to all chess enthusiasts, from beginners to masters. We believe in creating an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can enjoy the game of chess. Whether you are new to chess or an experienced player, you will find a place to learn, play, and connect with fellow chess lovers at our club.
We are proud members of the Sussex Chess League and actively participate in league matches against other local chess clubs. Additionally, we organise in-house tournaments and events, providing our members with ample opportunities to test their skills and challenge themselves. These competitions not only offer a chance to improve one's gameplay but also foster a sense of camaraderie among our members.
Our regular club meetings take place every Friday from 19:30 at the RAFA Bridge Club, conveniently located at 11 Wish Road, BN21 4NX. During these sessions, members engage in casual games, discuss chess strategies, and share their love for the game. The first three weeks of membership are completely free, allowing newcomers to experience the club without any obligation to join. We welcome players of all ages and skill levels to join us, as we believe that chess is a game for everyone.
For those interested in introducing their children to chess, we offer junior sessions for individuals under 18. These sessions take place from 18:15 to 19:30 each week and are designed to provide young players with a supportive learning environment. We even offer a complimentary coaching session for newcomers, ensuring that they receive proper guidance to kickstart their chess journey.
