Karate and Chinese martial arts. It was founded by Gichin Funakoshi in the early 20th century and has since become one of the most popular and widely practised styles of karate globally.
At Easingwold Shotokan Karate Club, our training is led by Sensei Grahame Hunter, a dedicated and experienced instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience. Sensei Grahame is a 4th Dan black belt and upholds the highest standards of teaching and learning in Shotokan karate.
Our training sessions are structured to support students in constantly improving and reaching their own potential. Whether you are a novice, intermediate, or advanced practitioner, we cater to all levels of experience. We focus on building self-defence skills, improving fitness levels, and enhancing confidence. Through disciplined training, students develop resilience and mental strength.
For our youngest members aged 3–5 years old, we offer special sessions called Red Bees Karate. These sessions provide an hour of karate-themed fun on Sunday mornings. Red Bees Karate helps young children develop skills in focus, confidence, listening, and getting along with others, all while learning some basic karate techniques. These sessions leave little ones feeling like superheroes!
If you're curious about karate but unsure if it's for you, we invite you to try your first week of training absolutely free. There's no commitment and nothing to pay. Just come along, meet us, and have a go. You don't need to worry about being fit or flexible, or having any special clothing.
Just wear something loose and comfortable. If you don't love it, it won't cost you a penny.
Our dojo, or karate training space, is truly something to behold. Modelled on the traditional Japanese style, it was designed and built by Sensei Grahame and students at the club. Our facility boasts dedicated changing rooms, free parking, training mats, and a space for relaxation.
We offer training sessions throughout the week, including Monday and Wednesday evenings for different proficiency levels, Friday evenings for senior grades only, and Sunday mornings for Red Bees Karate. See our schedule for specific training times.
In addition to regular training, we also offer bespoke, one-off self-defence coaching. These sessions can be tailored for individuals, families, friends, or even schools, clubs, or organisations. We teach basic, practical techniques that work in real-life situations. While you won't become a self-defence expert after one session, you will learn invaluable skills to navigate challenging situations and buy yourself time.
