Dragon Martial Arts Association (DMAA) in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex, is where martial arts enthusiasts come to hone their skills. With a solid reputation for offering authentic Chinese martial arts training, DMAA caters to students of all ages and levels.
Backed by the Dragon Sign Athletic Association and the Cheung Kwok Tai Wushu Association in Hong Kong, DMAA sticks to traditional training methods. They’ve even made headlines in The Metro and on BBC TV, adding to their street cred.
DMAA’s bread and butter are three Chinese martial arts styles. There’s Southern Dragon Style Kung Fu (Long Ying Kuen), passed down from Grandmaster Lam Yiu Gwai. The school’s top dog, Sifu Braithwaite, is the 4th in line from the Grandmaster and acts as the foreign president of the Dragon Sign Athletic Association in Hong Kong.
Next up, Yang Style Tai Chi. This isn’t your average slow-motion workout; it’s kung fu with a focus on both mind and body. It helps with stress, flexibility, energy, and sleep. DMAA covers the traditional long form and weapons like sword and sabre, as well as the fast form by Dong Ying Jie.
Then there’s Liu He Ba Fa, or “Water Boxing.” Known for its fluid and adaptable moves, it’s like transforming into water—soft yet powerful.
DMAA doesn’t just stop at traditional martial arts. They run street self-defence courses for individuals, groups, and even corporate teams. There’s also a special setup for teenagers, offering them self-defence skills and a confidence boost.
With a squad of experienced instructors, Dragon Martial Arts Association promises top-notch training in a supportive community. Newbies and veterans alike can find their place. To join, check out their website or give them a shout.
