Douglas Villa AFC was formed in 1954 as a junior club, with the seniors joining in 1958. We are a Masterton-based football club that competes in the local Wairarapa and capital competitions. From 1972 to 1990, we had a team in the Central League, and in 1985, a Douglas Villa team won the Central League Division Three South title.
TeamsFor the 2023 season, Douglas Villa AFC has five senior teams: DV TUMU, DV Drake, DV Cam's flooring, DV Skulls, and DV Mitre 10 Megabeens. We also have 26 junior teams competing in the local competitions from 6th to 12th grade, as well as a 13th grade team participating in the Wellington capital regional league.
FacilitiesDouglas Villa AFC warmly welcomes all visiting teams to our club. Our Park Sports ground is located at the end of Memorial Drive in Masterton. To find it, follow the road around to the back of the lake in Queen Elizabeth Park. Ample parking is available for team players, management, and supporters.
After each game, we invite our visitors up to our club rooms for refreshments. Our clubrooms feature a licenced bar, and EFTPOS is available from 12pm on most Saturdays. Additionally, our clubrooms can be hired out for private functions and events. For more information on this, please contact us.
In addition to local competitions, Douglas Villa participates in two special matches each season. The first is the Thomas Ryder Memorial Match, which honours Thomas Ryder, a dedicated fan who loved watching the games between the first XI teams of Douglas Villa AFC and Masterton AFC. The winner of this game receives the Thomas Ryder Memorial Cup, presented in Thomas' memory. In 2023, the game was held between Douglas Villa Skulls and Masterton Athletic, with Douglas Villa Skulls winning 5-1 and securing the cup for the season.
The second special match is for the Villa Shield, where the top team of Douglas Villa AFC plays a team made up of players from the rest of the club. The teams compete fiercely to prevent the first team from claiming the shield. In 2018, the Douglas Villa top team emerged as the victors and claimed the Villa Shield.
