Join British Offshore Sailing School's DofE Open Sailing Expeditions if you're looking to set sail for your expedition without a team. You'll get the chance to join other adventurous individuals and complete your training, practice, and assessed expeditions from the UK base. The 10-day expeditions also include a presentation as part of your DofE program, as well as enrolment in the online Inter-active Essential Navigation and Seamanship course.
The cost of the program starts from £1,450 per person and can be done in one 10-day block during the summer or split into two phases. The first phase includes a 5-day training and practice expedition during Easter or Summer half-term, followed by a 5-day assessed expedition in the summer. If you choose to split the program, you'll need to sail with the same participants for both parts.
The practice expedition must be completed in the UK, but if weather permits and the crew is strong enough, you may have the chance to sail to France for the assessed expedition. The prices cover food, accommodation, mooring fees, fuel, wet weather gear, and VAT where applicable.
