St Mary's Anglican Girls' School in Perth is thrilled to offer an incredible co-curricular diving program for students in Years 8 to 12. This program takes learning beyond the four walls of the classroom and immerses students in hands-on diving experiences that are both exciting and educational.
Starting in Year 8, the program kicks off with a focus on snorkelling. Students get to explore the underwater world and witness its beauty firsthand. And the best part? It all leads up to a thrilling night snorkel at the mouth of the Margaret River. Now, that's an experience they won't soon forget!
But the adventure doesn't stop there. In Year 9, students are given the unbelievable opportunity to earn their PADI Open Water Scuba Diving qualification. Once they have successfully completed the course, they embark on a four-day trip to the Abrolhos Islands in March. This trip is an absolute highlight, as it allows our girls to further enhance their diving skills while marveling at the unbelievable sealions, dolphins, and stingrays that call the coral reefs their home.
And let's not forget about the weeklong expedition to Coral Bay in July. This is where it truly gets magical. Students have the chance to interact with magnificent whale sharks and discover other fascinating sea life. It's an experience that will leave them with memories to last a lifetime.
For those in Years 10 to 12, the diving program offers the opportunity to earn their Advanced PADI and Rescue Diver qualifications. This allows our girls to take their diving skills to the next level and become true experts in the field.
It's also worth noting that many of our students who participate in the diving program choose to further their passion for marine life by studying Marine Science in Years 9 and 10. And in Years 11 and 12, they can even take it a step further by selecting Marine and Maritime Studies as ATAR subjects. This truly shows the impact that our diving program has on our girls, inspiring them to pursue their passion for the underwater world.
