Southbourne Canoe Club is excited to invite aspiring paddlers to join their upcoming beginners kayaking course on Sunday, May 11th, 2024. This course, known as British Canoeing ‘Discover’, is perfect for those new to the sport or looking to brush up on their skills. The minimum age to participate is 12, but younger paddlers from age 8 are welcome too.
The aim of the course is to introduce participants to basic boat control and safety techniques, ensuring they feel confident navigating calm waters. No official assessment is required beforehand as it will be included in the course curriculum. Southbourne Canoe Club will provide all the necessary gear, such as a boat, paddle, and buoyancy aid.
The cost of the BC 'Discover' training is £55, on top of the annual SCC membership fee. The course will take place at the slipway in Hengistbury Head outdoor centre, starting at 9 am and finishing around 4 pm. To sign up, participants need to be able to swim 50 meters and feel comfortable in the water.
If you can't make it in May, don't worry! SC also offers another beginners course in August, which you can find on the events calendar. To register for a course, interested individuals must first become club members. Once that's sorted, they can head to the online booking system (Webcollect) to secure a spot. Get ready to make a splash with Southbourne Canoe Club!
