Dirt Trackers Kart Club (DTKC) is an exciting racing club based in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. Founded by Ken Ditchfield Snr, the club has grown from humble beginnings to become a prominent name in the local Kart Racing community.
Back in the day, Ken Ditchfield Snr placed an advertisement in the West Australian Newspaper, calling for anyone interested in Kart Racing to attend a meeting. Approximately 50 passionate individuals took up the call and formed the first committee of the club. This marked the beginning of an incredible journey for DTKC.
The club wasted no time in getting things moving. They organised a Busy Bee event at Ken Ditchfield Senior's gravel pit in Gidgegannup, where they transformed the area into a thrilling Kart Racing track in just four weeks. And with great enthusiasm, the first race meeting was held, bringing together 14 karts to compete. Ah, the memories!
In those early days, the tower was simply a tin shed operated by Fred Holmes, and the canteen was set up in the back of a Ute, lovingly run by Rose Lawrence. Those were the days, full of passion, creativity, and a strong sense of community.
As time went on, the club decided to move to the well-known Kewdale site, where they continued to thrive and even hosted prestigious national titles. However, progress comes with its own challenges, and the club had to relocate once more due to industrial development. Since then, their new home has been at Boomerang Road, Oldbury, where they have proudly raced for over 22 years.
Over the years, DTKC has experienced tremendous growth in membership, boasting around 200 racing members and 80 social members. Amazing, right? It's a testament to the club's commitment to providing accessible Karting opportunities for people of all ages, from 5 to 70 years old. After all, Karting has been the starting point for numerous legendary racing drivers around the world.
Just to name-drop a few, Karting has helped shape the careers of esteemed drivers like Craig Lowndes, Jamie Whincup, Ryan Farrel, Shane Krikke, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, John Fenton, Marcus Ambrose, Tommy Watson, and Geoff Pilgrim. These talented individuals have all honed their skills and passion for racing through Karting, and DTKC takes immense pride in being a part of that journey.
