About

Over 20 years of experience, the Didcot Kyushindo Judo and Karate Club is a martial arts school located in Didcot, New Zealand. The aim of the club is to provide safe and enjoyable training for individuals of all ages, ranging from 8 to 80+.

The club offers training in both Judo and Karate, with each discipline taught to different degrees in various clubs. Kyushindo Judo focuses on natural, circular movements to achieve throws, emphasising the principles of JU and DO, which in Japanese mean 'gentle way'. This approach ensures that throws can be executed without relying solely on strength and lifting, reducing the risk of constant injuries.

In Kyushindo Karate, speed and accuracy are key components. The training places emphasis on using natural movement and maintaining good posture for blocking and striking. Similar to Judo, Kyushindo Karate prioritises martial arts techniques over sport competition, providing a foundation for self-defence skills while improving physical fitness and self-confidence.

The Didcot Kyushindo Judo and Karate Club is not focused on winning trophies, but instead encourages learning self-defence techniques and enjoying the process.

The club holds training sessions at the Fleet Meadow Community Hall on Sandringham Road in Didcot. Wednesday evenings are dedicated to Karate from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. Participants are welcome to join either session or both. The cost is a single charge of 5 per evening.

For additional information, individuals can contact the club via email at didcotkyushindo@gmail. Com.

Kyushindo Judo is taught using natural, circular movements to overthrow opponents, rather than relying on strength and force. This approach ensures that technique takes precedence over competition and reduces the chances of injury. Techniques such as forced arm locks and strangle holds, which are more commonly taught in competitive Judo, are not emphasised in Kyushindo Judo to prioritise the safety and well-being of participants.

Kyushindo Karate, on the other hand, incorporates both natural, circular movements and straight techniques, providing practitioners with a wider range of options when facing opponents. The focus is on using blocking techniques to deflect attacks rather than relying solely on force and strength. Striking techniques, such as punches and kicks, are practised from a relaxed position to develop speed and accuracy rather than power. The club does not incorporate exercises like board breaking to develop strength and power alone.

Unlike some other styles, Kyushindo Karate does not emphasise high or fancy kicking techniques. Instead, the focus is on developing fast and efficient techniques by targeting lower areas.

With a well-rounded and holistic approach to martial arts training, the Didcot Kyushindo Judo and Karate Club strives to provide individuals with a safe and enjoyable environment to learn and improve their skills, promoting physical fitness, self-defence, and self-confidence.
