At the heart of the Derby angling community, Derby Railway Angling Club, managed by John, has been a cherished institution since its founding in 1895. Originally set up for employees of the Midland Railway, the club has adapted over the years while sticking to its core mission: promoting angling and safeguarding fishing waters.
John ensures the club offers a wide variety of angling experiences. Whether you prefer still-waters, canals, or rivers, or you're into fly-fishing on Derbyshire's rivers and streams, there’s something for everyone. The club partners with The Angling Trust and local environmental projects, always aiming to improve and preserve angling for its members.
A major draw of the Derby Railway Angling Club lies in its impressive fishing rights. Members can enjoy 40 acres of pools and lakes, 13 miles of river coarse fishing, 3 miles of canal, 4 miles of river trout and grayling fly-fishing, and 2 miles of small river/brook trout fishing. No matter your angling style, there’s a perfect spot waiting for you.
Currently, applications for this season are closed, but John welcomes new members for the 2023/24 season in April and May. He also ensures the club provides match facilities on the River Trent and the Trent & Mersey Canal, with details available through their Match Booking Application Form.
For those wanting to show their support, official club merchandise is available.
John invites anyone interested or with inquiries about membership to reach out via email. He also requests visitors to review the club's Privacy Policy.
Running from June 16th annually, membership categories include Associate Coarse, Concessionary Associate Coarse (for those over 66, under 21, or disabled), Associate Trout, Concessionary Associate Trout, and Junior membership. Additional fees apply for a car park key and a Trent Night Permit.
John and Derby Railway Angling Club look forward to welcoming new members and offering top-notch angling in the Derby area.
