Taekwondo is known as one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, teaching more than just physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that enhances the spirit and life through training of the body and mind. In Korean, "tae” means “to strike or break with foot,” “kwon” means “to strike or break with fist,” and “do” means “way,” “method,” or “art. ” Therefore, taekwondo can be translated as “the way of the foot and fist” or “the way of kicking and punching.
Defence Arts also enforces a Code of Conduct to ensure the welfare and safety of all students, instructors, and associated officials. It is essential for all students, family members, and guests to abide by this Code of Conduct when attending any Defence Arts class, grading, or event. Breaches of the policy may result in reprimands, being asked to leave the training centre, suspension, expulsion, or referral to the police, as deemed appropriate by the instructors.
The Code of Conduct includes expectations such as notifying instructors of safety concerns, following directions and decisions of instructors and assistant instructors, showing respect to higher belt ranks, and keeping training fees up to date. It is important for all members to be aware of and comply with these rules for the benefit of everyone involved in Defence Arts.
