Goalball-Vereine entdeckenBlind Sports Australia (BSA) is a national sporting organisation based in Melbourne that focuses on providing opportunities and pathways for blind and vision-impaired individuals to participate in sports. As a not-for-profit organisation, BSA works closely with its members and other affiliated organisations to expand sporting opportunities for people with visual impairments at all levels.
From grassroots community-level sports to elite national and international competitions, BSA is dedicated to fostering inclusivity and creating a supportive environment for blind athletes to thrive. BSA is a founding member of Paralympics Australia and the Australian Sporting Alliance for People with a Disability, and it represents Australia in the International Blind Sports Federation.
One of the primary goals of Blind Sports Australia is to transform lives and empower blind athletes to exceed boundaries and achieve greatness in the world of sports. Currently, there are more than 20 sports available for blind and vision-impaired individuals in Australia, and this number continues to grow. In Australia alone, there are over 575,000 people who are blind or have visual impairments, with more than 70% of them being over the age of 65. Additionally, over 66,000 people are blind.
Blind Sports Australia has been supporting blind and vision-impaired sports since its establishment in 1980, accumulating over forty years of experience in the field. The organisation is dedicated to providing opportunities, resources, and support to blind athletes, enabling them to excel in their chosen sports.
BSA has recently teamed up with Vision Australia to support blind and low vision athletes in the upcoming 2023 IBSA World Blind Games. This partnership aims to provide necessary assistance and resources to athletes participating in the games. Additionally, BSA is actively involved in various international events, highlighting the organisation's commitment to promoting blind and vision-impaired sports on a global scale.
