D Dance Theatre Community Interest Company is a dance school located in Leeds, specifically catering to individuals over 50 in Oulton and the surrounding areas. The school aims to bring people together through the joy of dance, fun, and social activities. It was founded on December 18th, 2017, and is dedicated to creating a sense of community and reducing loneliness while improving fitness levels.
The school's first project was funded through a contract with Leeds Community Foundation to deliver a Time to Shine small funds project. This project allows mature individuals to have their time to shine through performances and learning the skill of Bollywood dance. Participants not only benefit from improved health and well-being but also enjoy the chance to connect with others in the community.
The lead instructor at D Dance Theatre is Chiragi, who is highly skilled in Bollywood dance. Chiragi takes a careful and patient approach when teaching, breaking down each movement and explaining which muscle groups are being worked. She ensures that participants are performing the movements correctly and safely, and she provides individual help for those with specific injuries. The classes cater to both beginners and advanced dancers, with clear explanations of fitness-focused movements and more delicate movements for performance.
D Dance Theatre offers classes at various locations in the Leeds area. Health and well-being classes with Bollywood dance are held at The Newman Centre on Station Road in Cross Gates every Monday from 11am to 12pm. Hunslet Library on Waterloo Street in Hunslet also hosts classes every Tuesday from 11am to 12pm. Additionally, classes are held at the Parish Hall on Church Street in Woodlesford every Wednesday from 11am to 12:30pm, with tea and coffee provided.
After the classes, from 12:30pm to 1pm, participants have the opportunity to stay and enjoy coffee and chat with others in the community.
Both ladies and gentlemen aged 50 and over are welcome to join the classes at D Dance Theatre. The cost is 6 per session, with the option to pay 20 for the month or pay as you go. Free parking is available at all venues, and car shares are arranged for those who may have difficulty reaching the locations.
D Dance Theatre Community Interest Company offers a Bollywood Dance Workout that not only helps participants maintain flexibility but also enables them to exercise at their own pace. The classes provide expert advice on adapting exercises, and participants have the opportunity to meet and socialise with local people. In addition to the classes, D Dance Theatre organises various fun group activities outside the regular dance sessions.
