DCPA Northland aims to provide a holistic fitness experience to its members. The conditioning classes include HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), Barre/Pilates, Mat Pilates, Personal Training, Pre and Postnatal exercises, Stretch & Mobility sessions, and Senior Fitness programmes. These classes have been carefully designed to challenge participants physically, while also teaching important life skills such as commitment, dedication, communication, coordination, and memory. At DCPA Northland, the studio owner and teacher/coach is Briar Taylor. Briar has been a passionate dancer since the age of four and has achieved notable accomplishments in various dance genres. She has obtained NZAMD solo performance diplomas in tap and jazz, as well as completed exams in NZAMD ballet, contemporary, and hip hop, along with RAD ballet. Briar has been nominated for NZAMD scholarships multiple times and has even competed in dance competitions throughout New Zealand.
Moreover, Briar has valuable educational qualifications, including a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Otago where she majored in Sport and Exercise Science and Physical Activity and Health.
In addition to her dance and physical education background, Briar is a certified instructor in The Method P3 (Pregnancy, Postpartum & Pelvic Floor), GGS Pre & Postnatal Coaching, The Barre Method NZ, and Polestar Pilates NZ (Mat Series). Her diverse expertise enables her to provide well-rounded fitness classes and personalised guidance to members at DCPA Northland.
The conditioning classes at DCPA Northland are designed to meet the diverse needs of individuals. The HIIT class is suitable for everyone, regardless of their fitness level or exercise experience. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace while challenging themselves. The exercises in this class involve a combination of body weight, light resistance, and optional weights.
The HIIT class lasts for 45 minutes, allowing time for warm-up and cool-down exercises to prevent injuries. Additionally, DCPA Northland offers baby-friendly classes three times a week, recognising the challenges parents face when trying to fit in their own workouts.
The Barre Pilates class is a unique and effective low-impact workout that combines elements of Mat Pilates and Barre work. This class focuses on toning and targeting smaller muscles, providing maximum burn with minimal impact on joints. Suitable for all fitness levels and abilities, the Barre Pilates class guarantees a great sweat and a satisfying workout.
