Db4dance School offers dance classes for children in a fun and encouraging environment. Children, regardless of their previous dance experience, can join our classes and explore various genres and themed music. What's great about our classes is that we don't have exams, but we cover the same level of work. Parents are always welcome to watch the classes, as long as they don't distract the children. Plus, at the end of each year, we hold informal performances for family and friends to celebrate the progress the children have made.
You can find our classes conveniently located at two venues in Brooklyn: the Brooklyn Community Centre at 18 Harrison St, and Vogelmorn Hall at 13 Vennell St. It's always good to have options!
Let's talk about the classes we offer for different age groups. We have our Pre-school fun classes for 3 and 4-year-olds, which promote coordination, physical exercise, cooperation, and imagination. Not to mention, we also introduce simple technique exercises, steps, and dances to get the little ones moving and grooving.
For children aged 5 and 6, we have our Ballet/Jazz 1 classes. In these classes, your child will be introduced to ballet and jazz techniques, including floor exercises, barre work, centre work, and travelling steps. They'll learn important skills like body awareness, concentration, coordination, physical fitness, rhythm, strength-building, and flexibility.
And finally, for our 7 and 8-year-olds, we have our Ballet/Jazz 2 classes. These classes build on the skills learned in level 1 and focus on rhythm, physical fitness, strength, coordination, and flexibility. Your child will gain confidence in technique and learn combinations of steps and movements in both ballet and jazz.
Now, let's talk about the significant stuff: the timetable. Our 2024 timetable is as follows: Term 1 runs from 3rd February to 27th March, Term 2 runs from 4th May to 29th June, Term 3 runs from 27th July to 21st September, and Term 4 runs from 19th October to 14th December, which includes our exciting end of year performance.
The class times at Vogelmorn Hall are as follows: Pre-school (3 & 4 yrs) on Wednesdays from 3.30-4.00pm, Ballet 1 (5 & 6 yrs) on Wednesdays from 4.00-4.30pm, and Ballet 2 (7 & 8 yrs) on Wednesdays from 4.30-5.00pm.
At Brooklyn Community Centre, the class times are: Pre-school (3 & 4 yrs) on Saturdays from 9.00-9.30am and Ballet 1 (5 & 6 yrs) on Saturdays from 9.30-10.00am.
Please note that all classes are subject to a minimum of 4 enrolments, and full term fees must be paid before the classes commence. In case of absences, they can be made up by attending the same class at the other venue. Do keep in mind that the timetable and class times for term 2 or 3 may be subject to change.

Now, let's talk fees. For those who want to give our classes a trial run, the trial class will cost $12, to be paid in cash on the day. This amount will be deducted from the term fee if you decide to continue for the remainder of the term. Speaking of term fees:
- For a 7-week term, the cost is $70.
- For an 8-week term, the cost is $80.
- And for a 9-week term, the cost is $90.

Our teacher, Debbie Groves, is a Distinguished Graduate of the NZ School of Dance. She brings extensive experience as a professional dancer and has taught dance in various countries. In New Zealand, Debbie has taught at educational schools, performing arts schools, and dance studios before starting Db4dance classes for children in Wellington. With qualifications including ARAD(Adv), Dip Dance, and LSCD Dip Cont Dance, Debbie is the perfect instructor to guide your child's dance journey.
