Darwin Aikido - Aikikai NT Inc, located in Darwin City, is a renowned Aikido school led by Richard Barnes Sensei, who has been teaching continuously for 50 years. With a focus on Ki development, this school offers a unique approach to Aikido training.

The roots of Aikido can be traced back to an ancient martial art called Aiki Jujutsu, which dates back over a thousand years. Ueshiba Sensei, the founder of Aikido, evolved the art from Aiki Jujutsu. It was then passed onto Sugano Sensei, a direct student of Ueshiba Sensei, who brought Aikido to Australia in 1965. Barnes Sensei, already an experienced Judo and Aikido instructor, became a student of Sugano Sensei during this time, and he went on to establish Aikido in the Northern Territory of Australia.

If you are interested in starting your Aikido journey at Darwin Aikido - Aikikai NT Inc, you are required to attend a full lesson at the Dojo. After watching the lesson, if you wish to become a member, you will start off as a probationary member to gain a deeper understanding of the commitment and obligations that come with training at the school.
