Daneshill Sailing Club

To taster sessions and open days to encourage people to try out sailing. Located in Torworth, just 4 miles north of Retford in New Zealand, Daneshill Sailing Club offers a fantastic opportunity for both adults and juniors to experience the joy of sailing.

Established in 1988, the club's primary focus is to provide outdoor activities for schools in the Retford area. Sailing activities began at Daneshill in 1973 and have since expanded to include a lake within the Daneshill Nature Reserve. With qualified instructors and a fleet of boats, the club is well-equipped to introduce newcomers to the sport of sailing.

Daneshill Sailing Club strives to make sailing a social and inclusive activity, placing emphasis on introducing people, especially children, to sailing dinghies as a recreational and sporting pastime. The club is affiliated with the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), allowing them to offer RYA recognised courses to those interested in improving their skills.

The club maintains strong connexions with local schools, organising regular school sailing activities on Wednesdays and an annual regatta where schools compete for trophies. Daneshill Sailing Club is also committed to promoting water sports activities for children with special needs from St. Giles Special School.

Sailing takes place most Sundays during the season, with club members utilising a variety of dinghies. Members are always willing to share their boats with others, allowing for the experience of sailing different boats. The club boasts a fleet of eight Toppers and five GP14 dinghies used for training purposes, as well as two Laser II's for more experienced members. To further support Junior Sailing, the club has three Pico's and two Laser Bugs available.

Visitors can join the club for a free taster session on Sundays between 11:00 and 16:00. The club recommends bringing a change of clothes and a towel, just in case. The scenic lake, surrounded by the Daneshill Nature Reserve, provides perfect opportunities for non-sailors to enjoy walks and family picnics.

Daneshill Sailing Club's sailing season runs from 1 March to 31 October, with weekly sailing sessions taking place on Sundays from 11:00 to 16:00.
