Melbourne Eastern Ranges Basketball Club, a prominent basketball club in Melbourne, is thrilled to announce an exciting upcoming event for Special Olympics Clubs. This event aims to bring together talented basketball players from all walks of life, fostering inclusivity and unity in the sports community.
In a groundbreaking partnership between Special Olympics Australia and DanceSport Australia, the world of dance and sports will merge to create more inclusive programs for athletes. Judy Pegus, the Chairwoman of DanceSport WA, expressed the hope of both organisations to promote diversity and inclusiveness within the sporting realm. DanceSport WA already hosts successful all-abilities programs and competitions, enabling greater community engagement and accessibility to state government funding.
This partnership marks the official integration of Special Olympics competitions into both national and state DanceSport competitions. It presents an incredible opportunity for Special Olympics athletes to showcase their skills on a national platform once a year through DanceSport competitions. Additionally, they will have the chance to participate in the highly anticipated Special Olympics National Games held every four years.
Corene Strauss, the CEO of Special Olympics Australia, shared her enthusiasm about this newfound collaboration. DanceSport programs will be introduced across Australia as part of the global Special Olympics movement. The Special Olympics National Games in 2022 will feature a thrilling DanceSport demonstration event, paving the way for DanceSport to become an official sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and the World Games in 2027.
Melbourne Eastern Ranges Basketball Club cordially invites all interested players to join us at this extraordinary event. We believe in the power of sports to bring people together and break barriers. So lace up your basketball shoes, embrace the spirit of competition, and be a part of this momentous occasion.
