DanceSport WA already offers successful all-abilities programs and competitions, which have not only expanded their community reach but have also made them eligible for state government funding.
This partnership brings together the world of DanceSport and Special Olympics competitions, allowing Special Olympics athletes to participate in national and state competitions. Once a year, they will have the opportunity to compete on a national level through DanceSport competitions. Additionally, they will be able to compete at the highly anticipated Special Olympics National Games, which take place every four years.
Corene Strauss, CEO of Special Olympics Australia, couldn't contain her excitement about this new opportunity for Special Olympics athletes. She proudly shared that Australia is one of the pioneer countries within the global Special Olympics movement to introduce DanceSport programs. To highlight the importance of DanceSport, a demonstration event will be showcased at the Special Olympics National Games in Launceston, Tasmania in 2022. Following that, DanceSport will become an official sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and even the World Games in 2027.
