We are thrilled to inform you that a new partnership has been formed between Special Olympics Australia and DanceSport Australia. This partnership aims to generate more inclusive programs in dance schools across the nation. The goal is to make DanceSport a truly diverse and inclusive sport, allowing athletes of all abilities to participate and showcase their skills on a national level.
DanceSportWA already offers well-attended all-abilities programs and competitions, which has made it eligible for state government funding. This funding will further enhance its community reach, enabling more athletes to get involved. The integration of Special Olympics competitions into DanceSport national and state competitions will be a game-changer. It will provide Special Olympics athletes with the opportunity to compete at a national level once every year, showcasing their talent and determination.
What's more, this partnership will add a fresh and exciting sport offering to the Special Olympics Games. This will provide an opportunity for individuals in the DanceSport community to compete through the Special Olympics pathway. Australia is proudly leading the way in introducing DanceSport programs within the global Special Olympics movement, being one of the first countries to do so.
In fact, DanceSport will even be featured as a demonstration event at the upcoming Special Olympics National Games in Launceston, Tasmania in 2022. This is just the beginning, as DanceSport will become an official sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and World Games in 2027. It's a thrilling development that showcases the commitment and dedication of both DanceSport Australia and Special Olympics Australia in making sports more inclusive for everyone.
