Southern Tasmania Basketball Club in Hobart is proud to announce an exciting local event that will be taking place in the coming weeks. This event is not only a great opportunity for basketball enthusiasts, but also for members of the Special Olympics Clubs in Southern Tasmania.
In a recent development, Special Olympics Australia has joined forces with DanceSport Australia to create more inclusive programs in dance schools all across the nation. This partnership aims to promote diversity and inclusivity within the sport, which is something that Southern Tasmania Basketball Club fully supports.
Judy Pegus, the Chairwoman of DanceSportWA, highlighted the importance of this partnership in expanding their all-abilities programs and competitions. By integrating Special Olympics competitions into their national and state competitions, DanceSportWA is giving athletes from the Special Olympics Clubs the chance to showcase their skills on a national level. This also opens doors for them to compete in the Special Olympics National Games, held every four years.
The CEO of Special Olympics Australia, Corene Strauss, expressed her enthusiasm about this new addition to their Games. By introducing DanceSport as a new sport offering, they are providing individuals in the DanceSport community with an opportunity to compete through the Special Olympics pathway. It's an exciting step forward for inclusive sports in Australia, as our country is one of the pioneering nations within the global Special Olympics movement to introduce DanceSport programs.
Looking ahead to the Special Olympics National Games in Launceston, Tasmania in 2022, DanceSport will feature as a demonstration event. This will give participants a taste of what is to come at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and the World Games in 2027, where DanceSport will be an official sport.
This local basketball event in Hobart is the perfect occasion to come together, celebrate inclusivity, and witness the power of sports in bringing communities closer. We encourage all interested players, including those from the Special Olympics Clubs in Southern Tasmania, to join us and be a part of this exciting event.
Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more updates on this incredible opportunity to support and cheer on these exceptional athletes. Let's come together and make this event a celebration of diversity, sportsmanship, and inclusivity within the Southern Tasmania Basketball community.
