Bundaberg Basketball Club is thrilled to announce a special event happening in our local area. The Special Olympics Clubs – Bundaberg Basketball event is set to take place, and we want to spread the word to all the interested players out there.
But before we dive into the details of this exciting event, let's talk a little bit about the new partnership that has formed between Special Olympics Australia and DanceSport Australia. Their goal? To generate more inclusive programs in dance schools all over the country. This collaboration aims to make DanceSport a truly diverse and inclusive sport.
DanceSport WA, being a part of this partnership, has already established all-abilities programs and competitions that have gained quite a following. By integrating Special Olympics competitions into national and state DanceSport competitions, this partnership allows Special Olympics athletes to compete at a national level once a year. This is in addition to the Special Olympics National Games that happen every four years.
The CEO of Special Olympics Australia, Corene Strauss, couldn't contain her excitement about this partnership. She sees it as a fantastic opportunity for Special Olympics athletes to participate in DanceSport. In fact, Australia is one of the pioneering countries within the global Special Olympics movement to introduce DanceSport programs. The upcoming Special Olympics National Games in 2022 will even feature a DanceSport demonstration event. And if that's not enough, DanceSport will officially become a sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and the World Games in 2027.
It's incredible to see Special Olympics Australia's dedication to ensuring that individuals with intellectual disabilities can actively participate in sports. And now, back to our local event.
