Blue Mountains Nepean Basketball club in Sydney is thrilled to announce an exciting upcoming event for our local community. We are proud to be a part of the new partnership between Special Olympics Australia and DanceSport Australia, which aims to promote inclusive programs in dance schools all across the country.
The Chairwoman of DanceSportWA, Judy Pegus, has expressed her commitment to making DanceSport a truly diverse and inclusive sport. DanceSport WA is already known for its successful all-abilities programs and competitions, and this partnership will further enhance their community reach. In fact, it will even make them eligible for state government funding, which is fantastic news.
Through this collaboration, Special Olympics athletes will now have the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete at a national level once a year through DanceSport competitions. This is an incredible achievement for these athletes, as it allows them to participate in both Special Olympics and DanceSport events. Every four years, they can also take part in the highly anticipated Special Olympics National Games.
Corene Strauss, the CEO of Special Olympics Australia, is thrilled about this new offering. DanceSport will now be added to the list of sports available within the Special Olympics Games, providing a pathway for individuals in the DanceSport community to compete through Special Olympics. Australia is at the forefront of this global movement, as one of the first countries to introduce DanceSport programs within Special Olympics.
We are also excited to announce that the Special Olympics National Games in 2022 will feature a DanceSport demonstration event. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to witness the unbelievable talent and passion of these athletes. DanceSport will officially become a sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and the World Games in 2027, solidifying its place within the Special Olympics movement.
We hope that this partnership will not only encourage more individuals to participate in DanceSport but will also create a more inclusive and diverse sporting community.
