This collaboration aims to expand inclusive programs in dance schools across the country.
DanceSport Australia has been recognised for its highly popular all-abilities programs and competitions. With the integration of Special Olympics competitions, DanceSport WA is proud to offer Special Olympics athletes the opportunity to compete at a national level once a year alongside their regular competitions. Additionally, athletes will have the chance to showcase their skills at the Special Olympics National Games, which take place every four years.
This exciting partnership has caught the attention of Corene Strauss, the CEO of Special Olympics Australia. She expressed her enthusiasm, acknowledging that this collaboration provides a fresh avenue for Special Olympics athletes to shine. Furthermore, Australia is among the early pioneers within the global Special Olympics movement to introduce DanceSport programs.
Looking ahead, the 2022 Special Olympics National Games in Launceston, Tasmania will feature a special DanceSport demonstration event. It's a splendid opportunity for athletes to showcase their talent and passion. Following this showcase, DanceSport will officially become a recognised sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and World Games in 2027.
