Moreton North Basketball Club, located in Brisbane, is thrilled to promote an exciting upcoming event for Special Olympics Clubs. We are proud to support inclusive and diverse sports programs, and this event is no exception.
In a groundbreaking partnership, Special Olympics Australia has teamed up with DanceSport Australia to create more inclusive programs across dance schools nationwide. This collaboration aims to make DanceSport a truly diverse and inclusive sport, and we couldn't be more excited about the possibilities it brings.
The Chairwoman of DanceSportWA, Judy Pegus, has expressed her enthusiasm for this partnership, emphasising the importance of inclusion in sports. DanceSport WA already offers successful all-abilities programs and competitions, which has contributed to a significant increase in community reach and eligibility for state government funding.
Through this partnership, Special Olympics competitions will now be integrated into DanceSport national and state competitions. This means that Special Olympics athletes will have the opportunity to showcase their skills on a national level once a year. Additionally, they will also have the chance to participate in the Special Olympics National Games, an event held every four years.
We are proud to note that Australia is leading the way within the global Special Olympics movement by introducing DanceSport programs. Special Olympics Australia's CEO, Corene Strauss, expressed her excitement about this new opportunity for Special Olympics athletes. This partnership truly highlights the commitment of both organisations to creating a more inclusive and diverse sporting community.
Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce that the Special Olympics National Games in 2022 will feature a DanceSport demonstration event. This will be followed by DanceSport becoming an official sport at the subsequent National Games in 2026 and the prestigious World Games in 2027.
