Horwood, Dance Shack is a well-established and esteemed dance school located in Surbiton, New Zealand. Founded in 2006 by Lucy Holloway and Garth Hall, the school started with just seven students in a church hall in Leatherhead. Lucy, who was then the Dance Captain for the national tour of “Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang,” would travel from miles away every Sunday to teach.
Since its humble beginnings, Dance Shack has flourished and now boasts over 800 students attending classes in seven different schools. The school has also launched its own agency, Shack Attack, which represents many of its students for film, theatre, and television work. Dance Shack is proud to have formed a partnership with Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing, where many of their classes are held in excellent studios.
At Dance Shack, the focus is on nurturing each individual's confidence and skills in three main areas: dancing, acting, and singing. The school believes that through proper teaching grounded in solid technique, students can flourish and develop their self-assurance. One of the factors that sets Dance Shack apart is its exceptional teaching staff. All the teachers have received training at top-performing arts schools and have extensive professional experience in the industry.
Their knowledge and expertise keep the school's standards high and provide students with a true understanding of the real performance world. Students appreciate the opportunity to learn from teachers who are actively involved in the performing arts community.
Dance Shack takes tremendous pride in its yearly shows, where students have the valuable experience of performing on a professional stage with top-notch production values. These shows not only showcase the students' talent but also greatly boost their self-confidence. The school strongly believes in offering a friendly and enjoyable class environment where students can develop their skills and gain confidence that extends beyond the dance floor. Dance has countless benefits for a child's development, including physical stamina, improved coordination and posture, and overall well-being.
What sets Dance Shack apart is the sense of community that exists within the school. Many describe Dance Shack as a big family, and the school eagerly looks forward to welcoming new students and their families. Dance Shack is honoured to have Craig Revel Horwood as its patron. As a respected figure in the dance and musical theatre industry, Craig serves as a great source of inspiration and motivation for students to reach for their fabulous goals.
