Dance ffun Studio

Welcome to Dance ffun Studio, a ballet and lyrical dance school located in Whakatne, New Zealand. The studio is passionate about providing a fun and joyful experience through movement. The owner and teacher, Susan Nel, is a registered qualified Royal Academy of Dance Teacher with 26 years of experience in South Africa and 9 years in New Zealand.

Dance ffun Studio strives to make dance accessible to as many children as possible by keeping costs to a minimum. Students are encouraged to wear leotards of any colour or style, and ballet shoes are available at a good price. The curriculum for preschoolers, called “Dance to Your Own Tune,” is designed to develop children's awareness of their bodies and the fundamentals of movement. It enhances their movement abilities, physical fitness, listening skills, and encourages expressive and imaginative movement.

This curriculum serves as the foundation for formal ballet training from the age of 5.

At Dance ffun Studio, formal ballet training using the Royal Academy of Dance method begins at the age of 5. Classes are taught in a loving, fun, and disciplined atmosphere. Students have the option to take Royal Academy of Dance exams starting from Grade 3, which are non-compulsory but highly recommended to maintain a high standard and provide a sense of achievement.

Dance ffun Ballet Studio was established in 2012 in the Ngunguru area and opened its doors in Whakatne in May 2013, initially located on 14 Lovelock Street. The studio is now located at 9 Bracken Street in Whakatne.

In addition to ballet, Dance ffun Studio also offers lyrical dance classes. Lyrical dance combines ballet and jazz techniques with expressive and emotional storytelling through movement. This style of dance allows students to explore their creativity and develop their own unique dance style.

Dance ffun Studio provides a welcoming environment for adults as well. Adult ballet classes are available for anyone aged 16 and above, whether they danced as a child and want to rediscover the joy of dance or have always wanted to try ballet.
