About

The Currie-Henderson Academy of Irish Dancing is a well-established sports club based in Sydney, Australia. With a history dating back to 1959, it is one of the oldest and most successful Irish dancing schools in the country. Founded by Janice Currie-Henderson (ADCRG), the academy has taught thousands of pupils and won over one hundred national titles.

In addition to training future State and Australian champions, the Currie-Henderson Academy has a strong reputation for stage performance. The dancers have showcased their talent at various public events, corporate functions, concerts, galas, weddings, fetes, festivals, and cultural celebrations. Their experience in stage performance has led many pupils to perform in Irish dance shows around the world, including the renowned Riverdance. Craig Henderson (TCRG), Janice's son, was a member of Riverdance for nine years, and even served as Dance Captain for three of those years.

The academy, which officially adopted its current name in 2007, offers classes for all ages and skill levels. Whether someone dreams of dancing on the world stage or just wants to dance for fun, the Currie-Henderson Academy can cater to their needs. They have multiple locations across the greater Sydney area, including Beverly Hills, Penrith, and Baulkham Hills.

Janice Currie-Henderson, widely known as “Miss Jan,” has made significant contributions to the Australian and global Irish dancing communities. In recognition of her service, she was named the very first Patron of the Australian Irish Dancing Association (AIDA). A respected authority on Irish dancing in Australia, Miss Jan has previously served as President of both the AIDA National Body and the NSW Branch. She has also held the position of Vice-President of An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha, the global Irish Dancing Commission.

While the Currie-Henderson Academy has a history of success and achievement, their focus remains on creating a fun and supportive environment for children. They place a strong emphasis on friendships and team spirit. The children who attend the academy not only learn to dance but also develop lifelong friendships. Enrolling in an Irish dancing class at the Currie-Henderson Academy offers an opportunity to have fun, make friends, get fit, and learn in a safe and happy environment.
