The Culfin Fishery, located in the picturesque area of Connemara in the west of Ireland, offers a unique fishing experience for enthusiasts. With two lakes, Lough Fee and Lough Muck, and a river, anglers can enjoy Salmon, Sea Trout, and Brown Trout fishing. Fly-fishing is recommended, but spinning with barbless hooks is also permitted. Fishing costs 40 per day, with equipment available for hire at 10 per day.
The fishing season runs from 1st February to 30th September for Salmon, 1st June to 30th September for Sea Trout, and 15th February to 12th October for Brown Trout.
This year, the fishery is fully open for Salmon with no quota restrictions, while all Sea Trout must be returned as in previous years. Anglers are required to have a government licence, available for purchase at the fishery office. For those new to the Culfin Fishery, guided fishing days can be arranged for 100. The fishery now has a fish counter on the river to monitor Salmon and Sea Trout numbers, providing valuable data for fisheries management.
In addition to fishing, there are plenty of activities to enjoy in the Connemara area. From lake and river fishing for the whole family to scuba diving in the pristine waters of the Killary, there is something for everyone. Walkers can explore the nearby Western Way or challenge themselves with a climb up Diamond Hill in the Connemara National Park. For those interested in sea fishing, Blue Water Fishing in Clifden offers the opportunity to catch a variety of species from Tuna to Turbot.
