Crompton Cricket Club, located centrally in the village of Crompton off Glebe Street, Shaw, Oldham, is a proud member of the Lancashire Cricket League. Established in 2018, the club made the decision to resign from the newly formed Pennine League and joined the Lancashire league, a league with a rich history dating back to 1892.
The Lancashire league embarked on a mission to recruit teams from other leagues in order to enhance competitiveness and ensure top-quality cricket matches played on grounds with excellent facilities. Crompton was accepted into the Lancashire League alongside six other ex-Central Lancashire league clubs, namely Walsden, Norden, Rochdale, Middleton, Littleborough, and Milnrow. This merger created a league comprising 24 teams.
In its inaugural season in 2018, Crompton showcased an exceptional performance, finishing in 9th place. As a result, the club earned its well-deserved spot in the leading division for the upcoming season, alongside reputable teams such as Walsden, Lowerhouse, Ramsbottom, Darwen, Church & Oswaldtwistle, Norden, Burnley, Clitheroe, Accrington, Rochdale, and Todmorden. The league will now consist of home and away matches, introducing relegation and promotion involving the other division. This ensures a highly competitive environment for all participating clubs.
Crompton Cricket Club is proud to have qualified coaches for all its junior cricket teams, fostering a safe and secure learning environment for aspiring cricketers. Each coach holds the necessary DBS checks, as do the Child Welfare Officers associated with the club.
