Cornwall House Outdoor Pool, located at the rear of Cornwall House on the Streatham campus in Exeter, is a popular outdoor swimming facility managed by the University of Exeter. Open seven days a week during the Spring and Summer months, this four-lane, 25-metre pool offers a relaxing and enjoyable swimming experience for individuals and families alike.
The pool area is set in a spacious grass and patio area, providing ample space for sunbathing and relaxation. The water is heated to a constant temperature of 29c, ensuring a comfortable swim for all visitors. The facility is staffed by qualified lifeguards who prioritise safety and are always ready to assist swimmers if needed.
Changing room facilities are available, including 6 lockers, 2 toilets, 3 open showers, and 12 small storage lockers. Limited parking can be found near the pool, with additional visitor parking available on campus.
Swimming sessions at the Outdoor Pool are divided into different categories. Key Lane Swimming is available in four lanes, including two fast lanes where fins, hand paddles, and kickboards are permitted, one medium lane where only kickboards are allowed, and one slow lane dedicated to kickboards. Snorkels are not permitted in any of the lanes. Casual Swimming is available in one lane with the rest of the pool open for general swimming.
The Family-Friendly swim session is also available, with no specific lanes designated, making it ideal for families to enjoy together. It is recommended to book in advance for the Family-Friendly swim session as spaces are limited.
Private hire and pool parties are also available at the Outdoor Pool. For a fee of 105, groups of up to 30 people can have exclusive use of the facility on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 15:00 to 16:00, including a lifeguard. An additional 20 can be paid to include the use of the pool's stepping stones, providing an extra element of fun and challenge for guests. After the exclusive use period, guests are welcome to use the grass areas and benches for their own picnic.
Cornwall House Outdoor Pool has now closed for the 2023 season, but it will be reopening and welcoming back customers in the following year.
