Cornwall Athletic Development is a youth strength training programme located in Cornwall, specifically designed to help young individuals excel in sports and physical activities. The aim of the programme is to increase strength and movement skills among youths, while also reducing the risk of injuries during their participation in sports and physical activities.
The mission of Cornwall Athletic Development is to prepare the youth of Cornwall for any physical endeavour by equipping them with the strength development and skills they need to be strong and confident. The programme provides a safe environment at Callywith College in Bodmin, where participants can learn and understand new movement mechanics and physical qualities. Through this programme, children, and adolescents are assisted in learning how to move and train properly so that they can take ownership of their health and future athletic development.
The programme is led by Atis Amaglo, the founder of Cornwall Athletic Development. Atis has over five years of experience as a strength and conditioning coach, with previous involvement with Exeter Chiefs rugby academy and King's School Bruton in Somerset. He holds a BSc Honours degree in Sport Conditioning and Rehabilitation from Cardiff Metropolitan University, as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), which ensures effective learning within the programme.
Cornwall Athletic Development offers a Long Term Athletic Development Programme specifically designed for kids aged 10-18, regardless of their athletic background. The programme addresses the specific needs of each individual at various stages of their youth development, enhancing their physical qualities. The programme runs for 50 weeks out of the year, aiming to support true, long-term youth physical development.
As part of the programme, there is a focus on performance testing, maturation monitoring, and goal setting. These assessments allow for monitoring the maturation status, growth rates, and physical performance of each participant. Various physical qualities such as strength, power, speed, and mobility are tested to ensure appropriate improvement along the Long Term Athletic Development curriculum. Goal setting is also emphasised to inspire young athletes and encourage them to strive for their best.
Cornwall Athletic Development understands the importance of parent communication, and to facilitate this, a private Facebook group has been created. This platform allows for regular communication, education, and engagement with parents. Important topics, logistics, and useful information are shared on a daily basis to ensure complete transparency.
Additionally, the programme offers performance education to enhance the knowledge of both parents and athletes. Participants will learn about nutrition, food preparation, performance strategies, and recovery strategies to maximise their performance in sports and daily life. Cornwall Athletic Development is also in the process of developing a youth athlete platform, providing resources and activities to promote learning about health and well-being.
In order to provide additional inspiration and insights, guest speakers are invited to participate in Zoom calls. Participants will have the opportunity to hear first-hand experiences from professional sportspeople and inspirational individuals, with the chance to ask questions. Cornwall Athletic Development is also planning to organise summer game speed workshops specifically designed for young athletes in Cornwall who want to improve their speed within their respective sports.
Overall, Cornwall Athletic Development is dedicated to helping young individuals in Cornwall develop their strength and athleticism. Through a comprehensive and supportive programme, participants are encouraged to take control of their health and future while excelling in their chosen sports and physical activities.
