Cork Youth Climbing Club is a dynamic and thriving community dedicated to developing climbing in Ireland and fostering a love for outdoor rock climbing among young people. Founded in 2010 by Cork climbers Damien OSullivan and Beatriz Baselga Pascual, the club has since grown to include around 35 youth members between the ages of 7 to 18 years old.
The primary focus of Cork Youth Climbing Club is to introduce young climbers to the exciting world of indoor and outdoor climbing. The club trains and coaches three times a week at Cork's newest climbing wall, Awesome Walls Cork, located at Eden Hall/Sports Village. With coaching sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and informal climbing on Saturdays, the club provides a supportive and engaging environment for young climbers to develop their skills and fitness.
Throughout the year, Cork Youth Climbing Club organises outdoor trips to various climbing venues in Ireland, such as the Gap of Dunloe, The Burren, and Glendalough. Members also have the opportunity to participate in youth climbing competitions held around the country during the Winter and Spring months. Additionally, the club organises international climbing trips to countries such as Spain, France, and the UK, providing young climbers with unique and exciting experiences.
One distinctive aspect of Cork Youth Climbing Club is its emphasis on parental involvement. Each member's parent or guardian must join the club and actively participate in its operations. This model has been successful in maintaining a strong safety record and fostering a sense of community among members and their families.
As climbing continues to gain popularity in Ireland and around the world, Cork Youth Climbing Club remains committed to providing young climbers with the skills, support, and opportunities they need to thrive in this adventurous sport. Join us today and be a part of our vibrant climbing community!
