Sensei Steve McNeill, the head instructor with over 23 years of experience, ensures that each student is valued and progresses at their own pace.
At Combat Jujitsu Ryu, fitness and self-defence are the twin pillars of training. Students engage in technique practice, physical conditioning, and mental preparation, aiming for practical self-defence skills. The club respects the heritage of Jujitsu, a martial art from the 17th-century Japanese warrior class, which has influenced modern sports like judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
Sensei Steve, who earned his Black Belt at 22, took charge of Combat Jujitsu Ryu in 2017 and started the Devon branch in 2018. Beyond technical training, he is committed to helping students with mental health challenges, low confidence, or no prior experience. His dedication creates an inclusive atmosphere where everyone, regardless of age, gender, or experience, can thrive.
