A bit of history for the curious minds: Colwyn Bay Amateur Swimming Club was founded way back in 1928, originally as the Roman Swimming and Diving Club at the open-air pool in Rhos on Sea. It reopened in 1947 under its current name. We’ve had quite the journey with locations including Rydal swimming pool, Pontyn's Holiday Camp in Prestatyn, Bangor, and Aberconwy school swimming pool before settling at Colwyn Leisure Centre in Eirias Park since 1981.
Our club thrives on the expertise of our fantastic coaching team, featuring Level 3 coach Irene Jones, Level 2 coaches Margaret Palczykiewicz and Rita Thomas, Level 1 coach Antony Williams, and Lane Coach Ray Dewsnap MBE. We’re also proud of our international and national technical officials like Len Thomas, Margaret Palczykiewicz, and Rita Thomas. Ray Dewsnap MBE is additionally a Trainee Judge 1.
We've had some brilliant achievements over the years with our club members. Notables include Peter Aldous, who bagged several medals in the 1988 Seoul Paralympics, Rowena Thomas-Breese MBE representing Great Britain in the World Transplant Games, and Mark Jenkins and Richard Meredith representing Wales. Olive Jones was also part of the Welsh team of officials at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
We’re affiliated with Swim Wales (WASA Ltd), British Swimming, and the Amateur Swimming Association in the UK, along with FINA, the international governing body.
Colwyn Bay Amateur Swimming Club is much more than just a place to swim; it's a community where swimmers of all ages and abilities can hone their skills, compete in galas, and enjoy the support of dedicated peers and coaches.
