Nineteen. I started teaching swimming at a local swim school and quickly realised my passion for teaching others how to swim and enjoy the water.
After gaining experience and qualifications, I decided to start my own swim school in Maidstone called “Collette's Swim School. ” We have been operating for just over 6 years now and have a team of dedicated and experienced instructors who are all qualified with Swim England level 2 certifications. We are also insured with the Institute of Swimming and hold The National Rescue Award for Swim Teachers and Coaches.
At Collette's Swim School, our main aim is to help our students progress to the best of their abilities and, most importantly, enjoy swimming. We want to instil a lifelong love for swimming in our students and show them that it doesn't have to stop after they have completed all the levels. To achieve this, we offer a tryout group that introduces competition-style swimming, synchronised swimming, water polo, snorkelling, and rookie lifeguarding. Through this group, we have had students join swimming clubs and synchronised swimming teams.
One of the reasons why parents and students choose Collette's Swim School is our commitment to providing high-quality swimming lessons with a high success rate. We keep our class sizes small, with a maximum of four students per class. This allows our instructors to give equal attention to all students and enables the students to push themselves to their full potential. We also have a variety of teachers with different teaching styles and personalities so that there's a teacher who will suit everyone's preferences.
When it comes to teaching, we follow the Swim England National Plan and award our students with Swim England distance awards to track their progress and achievements.
Collette, the founder of the swim school, has a personal connexion to swimming from a young age. She started swimming lessons with her mother at just four months old and went on to swim five miles at the age of nine. She was even approached by a local swimming club that same year. Collette's passion for swimming led her to join Larkfield Swimming Club at the age of twelve and win numerous competitions.
With her experience and qualifications, she became a lifeguard at sixteen and started her swim teaching career at nineteen.
