Coledale Rock Pool

Coledale Rock Pool, located in Coledale, NSW 2515, is a public swimming pool with a unique oyster theme. The pool is often referred to as the Coledale Oysters, in reference to the sharp oyster shells that can sometimes be found in the area.

Halfway along the pool, vertical steps are provided, but it can be challenging to exit due to the limited number of steps. The deep end offers two sets of steps, one being more gradual than the other.

Coledale Rock Pool experiences significant tidal differences. Visiting the pool a few hours after high tide provides the ideal conditions, with recently refreshed water and the calming waves splashing on the edge of the rocks. During high tide on calm days, there is a shallow paddle through the water to reach the pool from the road. However, locals advise caution during high tide with strong swells or a north-easterly wind, as waves can reach the height of the bench by the pool.

On rough days, visitors must be careful not to be washed against the pool wall or over it entirely.

Adjacent to the main pool, there is a paddling pool situated cliffside. The pool does not have any lifeguards nearby, but surf lifesavers can be found on the surf beach to the north.

Despite its commencement in the early 1900s, the pool did not officially open until 1921. Throughout the years, numerous stories and anecdotes have emerged, with tales dating back to the 1940s.
