
The early 1990s when he started training in Shotokan Karate at Colchester Shotokan Karate Club. He was inspired by his younger brother who was already a member of the club. Under the guidance of experienced instructors, Iain quickly progressed in his training and earned his 1st Dan black belt in 1998.
Throughout the years, Iain has continued to deepen his knowledge and skills in martial arts. He has trained in various other disciplines, including Judo and Kickboxing, to further enhance his understanding of self-defence and combat techniques. In 2005, he achieved his 2nd Dan in Shotokan Karate and became an instructor at CSKC.
Iain is known for his dedication and passion for teaching. He believes that martial arts can have a positive impact on individuals, helping them develop not only physical strength and self-defence skills but also discipline, focus, and confidence. He strives to create a supportive and inclusive environment at the club, where students of all ages and abilities can thrive.
Colchester Shotokan Karate Club is proud to be a part of the Toyakwai Karate Association (TKA) and affiliated with the English United Karate Federation (EUKF). These associations provide opportunities for members to participate in competitions, grading examinations, and workshops with renowned instructors.
The club is located at Colchester Academy School Sports Centre on Hawthorn Road. Training sessions are held on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7. 00pm to 8. 30pm.
The facility offers a spacious and well-equipped training area, ensuring that students can train safely and comfortably.
Colchester Shotokan Karate Club is a not-for-profit organisation. Its dedicated black belt instructors volunteer their time to ensure that members receive high-quality training at affordable fees. Any income received by the club is reinvested into improving the facilities and providing additional resources for the benefit of its members.
To encourage newcomers to discover the benefits of karate, the club offers four free lessons, allowing individuals to experience the training environment and determine if it is the right fit for them.
