To discuss the formation of an Aero Club in Coffs Harbour on 11 August 1928. The meeting was well attended, and the Coffs Harbour & District Aero Club was officially formed.
Today, the Coffs Harbour & District Aero Club continues to operate as a training establishment, offering flight training and trial introduction flights to aviation enthusiasts. It is the only Training Aero Club on the East Coast that has an RAA AUS exemption for flight training in Controlled Airspace with an operating Control Tower. This unique advantage allows students to train in a real air traffic environment, enhancing their learning experience.
The club operates two Jabiru J170 aircraft. The J170-C, with conventional instruments, is used for ab initio training as well as more advanced training and private hire. The J170-D, featuring a glass cockpit, provides an opportunity for student pilots to learn and familiarise themselves with modern avionics and systems. With two aircraft available, the availability and options for flying and training have expanded.
The Aero Clubhouse is a welcoming space for members and visitors. It is air-conditioned, with fully licenced bar facilities and a commercial kitchen. Outside, there is an undercover courtyard and a large BBQ area. The clubhouse also caters to functions, birthdays, meetings, and special occasions at competitive rates.
On Friday nights, the bar is open, and delicious food is available for those looking to relax and unwind in a safe and friendly environment.
