Founded by fifth-generation Mountain cattleman, Peter Cochran, Cochran Horse Treks offers expertly guided horse treks in the magnificent Snowy Mountains of NSW. With over 25 years of experience, Peter is well-versed in Australian history and Mountain culture, making him the perfect companion for a yarn around the campfire.

At Cochran Horse Treks, the horses are the heart and soul of the experience. Hand-picked for their temperament, each horse goes through a rigorous trial period of work with the guides before they are ridden by guests. The horses come from a range of breeding backgrounds, including Australian Stock Horses, Heritage Stock Horses, Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds, Clydie crosses, and even a majestic 17. 1 hands high Shire cross.

They are all known for their love of affection and are sure to make every ride a memorable one.

The Old Snowy Horse Camp, located in the northern end of Kosciuszko National Park, is where many of the treks begin. This comfortable and authentic camp allows guests to immerse themselves in the stunning surroundings. With regular visits from wallabies, possums, and brumbies, riders can experience the unique wildlife of the area while enjoying great horses and delicious food. From there, riders can explore Currango Plain, visit Mountain huts, or take in breathtaking views from the tops of the Mountains.

For those looking to venture further, Cochran Horse Treks also operates in the Tom Groggin/Geehi area. Located on the southwestern fall of the Main Range of Kosciuszko National Park, this area offers incredible natural beauty that is best explored on horseback. With access to several NPWS horse camps, riders can experience stunning views of the Alpine tops of the Mountains, traverse beautiful wide and shallow rivers, and visit historic Mountain Huts.

Lastly, Cochran Horse Treks is based in Yaouk, a stunning setting on the Murrumbidgee River. Just 22 km north of Adaminaby, Yaouk is the home base for the treks and offers a unique Australian environment. The camp has evolved over the years to provide basic comforts, including showers, toilets, and, of course, a campfire. It may not be five-star accommodation, but it perfectly blends into the natural surroundings, providing a truly authentic experience.
