Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club (CHPSC) is a renowned yacht and sailing club situated in Pwllheli, Wales. Positioned within the Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre, CHPSC provides a variety of facilities and activities for sailing enthusiasts of all levels.
Affiliated with the RYA and RYA Cymru Wales, CHPSC maintains a robust reputation in the sailing community. The club co-hosts the IRC Welsh National Championship alongside RDYC, demonstrating its dedication to competitive sailing.
As a members club, CHPSC operates on a voluntary basis by its members, ensuring all activities and decisions are made with the community in mind. Registered as a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), CHPSC prioritises inclusivity and community spirit.
A pivotal figure in CHPSC’s history is the late Richard Tudor, a former Club Commodore and President, Plas Heli founder Director, and Round the World Yachtsman. Richard’s contributions to the establishment of the Welsh National Sailing Academy and Event Centre, along with his active role as a volunteer board member of Plas Heli, left an indelible mark on the club. His passing was a significant loss for the sailing community.
CHPSC conducts numerous racing events year-round, with results displayed on the club's website. Members can stay informed via the latest news, e-newsletters, and archived articles accessible on the notice board section. The club honours Richard Tudor by republishing an edited article that recognises his lifetime contributions to sailing, Pwllheli, and the club.
The club Commodore, Mark H Thompson, conveyed deep condolences and emphasised Richard's influential role in CHPSC's history. Plans are in place to publish a comprehensive eulogy in Richard's memory, and members can contribute to an e-book of condolences.
The Commodore’s newsletter keeps members updated on the club’s activities and events throughout the year. Despite challenges such as the living cost crisis and the pandemic, CHPSC successfully organised racing weekends, filled both the Hafan and Plas Heli berths, and provided extensive training for the youth sailing section, CHIPAC.
CHPSC also hosts events such as the Peter Christmas Party and Prize Giving, featuring a four-course gala dinner, prize presentations, and dancing. These events offer members and guests a chance to socialise and celebrate together.
In summary, Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli Sailing Club offers a vibrant and inclusive community for sailing enthusiasts. With its prime location, notable affiliations, and committed members, CHPSC remains a respected and cherished institution in the sailing world.
