Clifton and Henleaze Taekwon-Do is a martial arts school located in Bristol, New Zealand. The school is dedicated to providing friendly and inclusive taekwon-do training for individuals of all ages and skill levels. It is proud to be a member of the Professional Unification of Martial Arts (PUMA), a forward-thinking organisation that offers technical training, support, and encouragement to all its members.
Clifton and Henleaze Taekwon-Do accepts new students throughout the year, starting from the age of 4. The school offers age-specific classes and a junior-friendly syllabus that not only focuses on improving taekwon-do skills but also helps develop self-esteem and confidence in young students. There are also classes available for senior grades, adults, and black belts.
The classes take place in various venues within the BS8, BS9, and BS10 postcodes of Bristol. For the current class schedule, individuals can refer to the “upcoming events” page on the school's website. It is worth noting that the school prioritises the safety of its junior students, and all the photos on their social media pages are taken during public events or are historical in nature.
For children aged 4-6 (Little P. U. M. A.
s) and juniors (7+), the school has a dedicated children's syllabus that helps them develop basic skills and confidence at a pace that suits them. This allows them to feel a sense of achievement before embarking on their journey towards earning a black belt. Juniors have their own classes that are subdivided based on age and grades. Students with prior experience in ITF affiliated organisations are also welcome to join.
Cadets are older juniors or individuals who have attained senior grade status and wish to take their taekwon-do training more seriously. In cadet and adult classes, students of all ages train together, usually in longer lessons lasting approximately 90 minutes. Emphasising good self-control and sportsmanship, the school creates a safe yet challenging environment for all its students. There is no upper age limit, and senior grades and black belts from other ITF affiliated disciplines are welcome to join Clifton and Henleaze Taekwon-Do.
The school provides access to a full calendar of squad training, tournaments, camps, and seminars organised by the Professional Unification of Martial Arts. Students can participate in domestic, national, and international tournaments, with the opportunity to be selected for the British Squad. Additionally, seminars on various topics such as Bo Staff, Ground Fighting, Applied Self Defence, and Technical Taekwon-Do are available throughout the year, taught by current international and world champions. The school also hosts a special full day of free seminars for its members called P.
day, celebrating the anniversary of its inauguration. Moreover, a summer camp is organised every year in Croyde Bay, where families come together to train, socialise, and learn new skills.
