Portishead LeRoc, a contemporary dance club in Bristol, invites you to join their local contemporary dance event! Held every Tuesday at Portishead Primary School, these classes offer something for everyone.
For total beginners, there are Beginners' Classes available. These classes are designed to introduce newcomers to the world of contemporary dance. You will learn 3 or 4 moves in each class, and over time, you'll become comfortable dancing them in freestyle sessions. The emphasis in these classes is on teaching the basics and techniques of the moves, all in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.
If you're already familiar with the beginners' moves and techniques, the Intermediates' Class is perfect for you. This class moves at a faster pace, assuming that you know the basics and are ready to take your skills to the next level. In addition to teaching more advanced moves, this class also focuses on teaching style, adding that extra flair to your dance routine.
For those who crave even more instruction and practice, there's the Beginners' Extra Class. In this smaller and more informal setting, you'll have the opportunity to go through the moves in more detail, perfecting your technique and adding finesse to your dance.
After the classes, it's time to hit the dance floor and put your newfound skills into practice during the freestyle session. This is your chance to let loose, have fun, and showcase your moves alongside fellow dance enthusiasts.
All of this comes at a cost of just £8 per person for the full evening of lessons and freestyle sessions. It's definitely a bargain for all that you'll learn and experience.
Portishead LeRoc is led by an experienced team of dance instructors, including Steve Wonnacott, Dave, and Kat Holbrook, who have a wealth of experience in teaching dance classes and workshops. They believe that dancing should be fun, and their goal is to make sure that every participant leaves the classes with a smile on their face.
Herb, Graham, and Julie are also valuable members of the teaching team, bringing their passion for dance and a strong sense of community to the Portishead LeRoc family.
Established in 2005 by Maurice Flay, Portishead LeRoc has grown to become a respected and beloved part of the community. In 2011, Heather Parsons took over the reins, focusing on teaching style and interpretation. And now, in 2021, experienced local teachers Steve, Dave, and Kat are proudly continuing the tradition, bringing their expertise and enthusiasm to the forefront while preserving the fun and sense of community that has always been at the heart of Portishead LeRoc.
So whether you're a complete beginner looking to dip your toes into contemporary dance or an experienced dancer eager to refine your skills, Portishead LeRoc's local contemporary dance event is the place to be. Join us on Tuesdays at Portishead Primary School and let the music move you!
