City of Swansea Rowing Club, established in 1994, offers a great rowing experience on the River Tawe right in Swansea, UK. Originally set up near Morfa Stadium, you can now find the club at Swansea Yacht And Sub-Aqua Club in Swansea Marina. With easy access from the M4 and good rail links, it’s perfect for both locals and commuters.
Tom and his team provide excellent facilities and equipment for everyone, from teens to those in their 50s and 60s. It’s a welcoming place for newbies and seasoned rowers alike. Thanks to funding from various sources like the Foundation for Sport and the Arts and a generous £5000 from the Mars Refuel Awards, they’re able to purchase gear specifically for younger rowers.
The club offers a full training programme for seniors, novices, and juniors, including Welsh Squad training sessions. Many juniors have represented Wales at the Junior Interregionals, and members have competed at events like Women's Henley and the Home International.
Senior members often team up with veterans across Wales and beyond, participating in events such as vet Henley and FISA Masters. The club competes in races across Wales and the West of England, with trips to big events like the Head of the River Race in London and the Ball Cup at Eton Dorney. Despite being a small club, they consistently show strong performances locally and nationally.
Tom and his team are excited about future plans for new facilities in Swansea. They’re negotiating two river locations to better serve the rowing community in West Wales. This new era looks promising for the growth and success of City of Swansea Rowing Club.
