The North Otago Rugby Football Union Inc, based in Oamaru, is excited to announce the upcoming Rugby Union event – the Citizens Shield. This prestigious competition has been a significant part of North Otago's sporting history, having been first awarded in 1903. The Oamaru Football Club had the honour of becoming the inaugural holders.
Since then, the Citizens Shield has been contested every year, with only short breaks during the challenging periods of World War 1 and 2. This year, Valley emerged victorious in an exhilarating final, defeating Excelsior 26-23, and securing the 2023 title.
