About
Circle of Harmony Aikido Dojo is a traditional Aikido club located in Limerick, founded in 1993 by Moylan, Ryan and Keith O Donnell. Moylan started practising Aikido in Dublin in 1993 due to the absence of Aikido clubs in Limerick at the time. The Dojo follows a strict code of conduct, with members required to perform a standing bow to the Kamiza upon entering, which is an area of the mat with a photograph of OSensei, the founder of Aikido.
At Circle of Harmony Dojo, students wear Hakama, black or navy pleated pants worn over Keiko-Gi, with the seven folds symbolising various meanings. Hakama may be awarded to a student upon reaching 4th que if they have demonstrated dedication through their practise. The club is affiliated with Alan Ruddock Sensei (6th Dan) under the Aiki No Michi group, who was a direct student of O'Sensei Morihei Ueshiba.
The philosophy of Aikido emphasises personal growth and self-improvement, with a focus on developing a considerate and balanced mind. Classes at Circle of Harmony Aikido Dojo cost 40 Euro per month, with no joining fee. The only additional cost is an annual insurance subscription.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Circle of Harmony Aikido Dojo will resume training on 20th September, welcoming back existing members and newcomers alike. The club provides a supportive and disciplined environment for individuals to learn and practise Aikido, promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and personal growth.
