Simon, the organiser of the Churchinford Cricket Club, wanted to reach out to the vibrant sports community with a personal note. Here’s what he had to share:
Churchinford Cricket Club, nestled in Taunton, has been a cherished part of the community since 1891. Known for their love of cricket and social gatherings, the club also takes pride in their fantastic teas. The pavilion, built by both players and villagers, acts as a hub for music clubs and a football club, and is available for hire at a reasonable rate, along with the pitch.
Playing in the West Somerset League, the club celebrated a significant achievement by becoming Division 2 Champions in 2017. After moving from the East Devon League in 2007, the club enjoyed back-to-back promotions and had close calls for another promotion in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, eventually succeeding in 2012. Despite a setback and subsequent relegation, they've been steadily regrouping since 2014.
Simon is proud of the club's friendly reputation and its three cup final appearances over the past seven years. Currently, they play a few Sunday fixtures and aim to expand to midweek fixtures to encourage more participation. If you're interested in playing or organising a fixture, please get in touch.
The club's inclusive and welcoming atmosphere is something Simon takes very seriously, always encouraging new players to join. Training sessions, or 'nets', are on Wednesday evenings at the ground and offer a perfect opportunity to hone skills. For more details about nets or joining the club, email [email protected] or use the contact form on their website.
Situated on the Somerset/Devon border, Churchinford Cricket Club is perfectly placed for players in the area. The club’s successes, sociable nature, and growing popularity make it an ideal choice for any cricketer looking to join a thriving community club.
