Churchill Football Netball Club Inc, formerly known as Hazelwood Football Club, has a rich history in the Latrobe City region of Australia. The club was established in 1905 and was a founding member of the Mirboo Football Association. Over the years, the club competed in various leagues, including the Morwell Football Association and the Mirboo Morwell Football Association.
After World War II, the club joined the Mid-Gippsland Football League, where it had a successful run until 1983, winning a total of seven senior grade premierships. In 1981, the club changed its name to Churchill, and in 1984, it transferred to the La Trobe Valley Football League.
However, the club faced several challenges and endured a string of wooden spoons during its time in the La Trobe Valley Football League. It was not until 1995 when Churchill joined the North Gippsland Football Netball League that the club experienced consistent success.
In its first season in the North Gippsland Football Netball League, the senior team reached the grand final but lost by 8 points. The following year, Churchill made it to another grand final but narrowly missed out on victory. Since the turn of the century, Churchill has become the most successful club in the league, winning three senior grade grand finals in 2002, 2003, and 2008. In 2014, the senior side claimed another premiership by defeating an undefeated Heyfield in the Grand Final.
Not only has Churchill excelled in senior grade football, but the reserves and thirds teams have also achieved great success, winning multiple leadingships between 1995 and 2014. Additionally, the club was crowned the North Gippsland Football Netball League's champion club eight times in a row between 1996 and 2003.
The Churchill Football Netball Club Inc actively engages with its community through its social media presence on Facebook. The club's Facebook page provides updates on current events and activities.
In addition to football, Churchill also has a strong netball team. The A-grade netball side is aiming to maintain the form it showed in 2014, where it narrowly missed out on reaching the finals. The netball team trains under the guidance of experienced coaches and plays games every Saturday, starting at 9:00 am.
