Having dedicated himself to the practice of karate since 1986, Chris Ewing has an impressive list of achievements under his belt. With a standout career that includes Scottish, British, European, and Commonwealth championships, Chris made the decision to retire from the national squad in order to focus on his true passion – coaching.
Since opening its doors in 2005 at the Portobello Community Centre in Edinburgh, Chris Ewing Karate has rapidly grown in reputation and popularity. Today, our club boasts a state-of-the-art dojo situated in the heart of Musselburgh High Street. We cater to both children (starting from 5 years old) and adults, offering a range of classes suitable for beginners through to advanced students.
At Chris Ewing Karate, we understand the importance of family and community. Parents are welcome to observe their child's progress from our comfortable reception area or take advantage of our parent lounge, ensuring a supportive and welcoming environment for all.
For our junior members, we have a comprehensive grading syllabus in place to help them progress through their ranks. Starting with the junior yellow and orange belts, which are earned during regular class time and meant to encourage their growth, our young karatekas then move on to the formal 'Kyu' grade system. In order to achieve the higher senior belts, students are required to undergo a formal grading examination, accompanied by a CEK Association license. These examinations occur every three months and require a small fee.
